Well im considering the upgrade, from my 20D to a 30D,i’m only a student so when i get some money i either buy crap of get something worthwhile,Just wondering should i buy a 30D as an upgrade to my 20D,in a view to selling the 20D…The larger screen appeals to me and the fact is can be got buy it now for £300 on ebay not to pricy either…I’v also heard the metering system is much better on the 30D.Is this true?

    Any help appreciated,Thanks!

Hmm.. If I were you, I think I’d stick with the 20D, and try to scrape together a bit more cash to get a 40D. There’re good deals to be had on these at the moment, and I’d say there may be better ones in the new year. The 30D always struck me as a camera released because Canon had to release a camera at the time. Spec wise I don’t think it improved that much on the 20D. DPReview have a comparison with the 20D here

JMcL is probably correct. The general opinion was that the 30D was not much of an upgrade on the 20D. The 40D in its day was regarded as a “real” improvement. I would give the 30D a miss and go for the 40D.

Have to agree. I wouldn’t go from 20D to 30D. Save the money, buy better lenses, or go for a 40D.

I have the 30D. As has been said it’s only an incremental upgrade from the 20D- the main difference is the screen, and nothing else you would notice. I wouldn’t bother with the upgrade.

The 40D will be crashing in price since the 50D was released. It’s a much better camera. Save your Christmas money for that one.
