Nice shots Ken. They left it a little late to wrap that one up! I was in the west terrace for the game. Never brought the camera though. Too much hassle when I wanted to watch the game.

I saw a lad standing at the gate onto the pitch from the west terrace at the end you were sitting (I presume it was you, ERC 2 or 4?) with a 300mm canon and monopod. He seemed pretty pleased with himself when Wallace went in right in front of him.

I noticed him at the start of the match wondering where his bib was. I was surprised they let him in with the camera but fair play to him. I was ERC 3, sandwiched in next to 2 and 4. Then headed up to the North East corner.

I think you need to read the post again.

    Ken,
    Great stuff.
I was just wondering about ERC accreditation.
I normally have no problem with access to Connachts Magners league games but it’s a different story with the European games.
I applied for accreditation with Westgate through the ERC website but the seem to only look after games in the UK.
Do you have any advice as to the best route to obtaining accreditation?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan.

Westgate are the accreditation body for the ERC. After you are approved by Westgate, you then need to apply to the club on a per game basis.

The number of photographers at the munster games is a lot higher this season. I think I knew every face in the photographer ranks last season but since the All Blacks match apparently the number of photographers looking to get pitchside has increased drastically to the point that there are photographers being turned down for Magners games !

A good sign .. It’s good for rugby, but I’m sure how good it is for the photographers.

hmm that reminds me I need to email the press guy at connacht to see if I can get pitchside for the connacht v musnter game.

There hasn’t been any problems with gaining accreditation once you have the backing of newspapers etc. I don’t know of anyone turned away if they are involved with the press.

That’s been to-date Ken, I know munster will be restricting numbers after the ulster match.
It’s possible Sky might have had complaints about the number of photographers around their cameras at the Clermont game, I was was suprised to see photogrphers in such close proximity to the corner cameras at that match. Normally we’re not allowed within 10m of those cameras.

For the All Blacks game there were so many photographers that some of the accredited photographers were asked to stay in the area in the stand just outside the media room. There were also some issues around the tunnel area where photographers were getting in the way of players.

As Lahinch Lass has said the number of photographers will be reduced, but I suspect that it will be the freelance and those without the backing of a newspaper will be the first to go. A big change from the days when there were only a handful of photographers at these games.

It’s always down to the hosting club as to how many photographers are allowed in, and also where photographers are permitted. As well as that, the governing body can also issue guidelines as to where photographers can sit.

Up to your usual standard Ken – nails the action very well – I love the David Wallace one – very typical!

    Keep ’em comin’
