    Hi there,
I recently got a nikon D40 following advice on Ken Rockwells photography site. I came across the PI site while I was researching which camera to get.
Previously I had just been using a point and shoot but have done a fair bit of B+W 35mm film photography in my student days (school of life 89-01). I’m still coming to grips with digital, there’s a whole lot more to learn in preparation for a shot, and so much more that can be done in Photoshop.

One of the things that interests me as I look through digital pictures is that so few seem to be untouched by photoshop. I’m currently planning a trip to mmexico and trying to figure out the best way to do some underwater photography,m having done a course last year. Ikelite housing for my point and shoot is $300 and for the D40 is $1000 plus. This is still not a cheap hobby.

So far I’ve been snapping friends and family, and learning the camera. Just started to try teach myself photoshop. Look forward to getting to know you more and share some shots.

Welcome to the site Sean :) All photographs need some processing,
film photographers did it in the darkroom and digital do it on the
computer, though if you want to “manipulate” images digital is far
    easier. Enjoy the site.

    Hi Sean

I also have a D40 and I have recently took up photography. I wanted to get a underwater casing for the d40 to bring on holidays to get some underwater shots. I bought a D40 case from Ebay in October. Although it was from the USA it was very quick to arrive. I tested the case with kitchen roll (i know very professional-lol) and the case was absolutly waterproof. Its pretty fiddley at first but after a few test shots it does what its supposed to. I tried it in chlorine and salt water and it fab.

Costs around €80-100. But worth it, i think.
Here is a link to the page… hope this works http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UNDERWATER-CASE-FOR-NIKON-SLR-D40-D40X-D50-D60-D80-D100_W0QQitemZ200293779178QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDigital_Camera_Accessories?hash=item200293779178&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177
