Portait posing books?

Anyone know of any books that teach you how to pose models for portraits etc. I find this the trickiest part. I run out of ideas after 2 or 3 poses. Thanks.

Missed this thread the first time around, and would recommend to anyone looking for books on poses, to look into books on body language also, where a wealth of detail on the fundamentals of human postures are to be found.

Desmond Morris’ book ‘Manwatching’ is a great resource, and as an anthropologist Morris also turned his attention to the human as species in some of his other books also, such as ‘The Naked Ape’, observing, analysing and commenting on the behaviours of humans as one would a species of animal.

Both are great places to start in exploring the origins of human behaviours, which can be a valuable knowledge when shooting people.

Richard Avedon, for example, is a self confessed theatre addict, often using it to explore the nature of human expression and emotion.

    Thanx Damien,

I have a copy of “Manwatching” and have returned to it many times. But never thought of using it for insights into posing. Great thinking.
