I like the fact that the male gets the whole bench while the woman has to sit on a small chair…few meters away from the male. NOW THIS IS LIFE :)) Must show this to my wife. Where do I sign to become a muslim?? ( My dad would kill me..I am jew)

I like the photos but they could do with a bit of post-processing. The first one is crooked and a bit flat. Needs more contrast and vibrancy.

Second one could be really nice if you could enhance the sky. I would have like to see the man on the camel as a silhouette against the sky. But this is just my personal opinion.

thank you phot for the comments

i am a complete beginner with photography, can just about manage picasa.

could really do with classes but unfortunately they are not too easy to come on here in donegal. i have photoshop now but havent even looked at it, but will hopefully get into it soon, not sure how easy it is to self teach but will have to give it a go.

The truth about cameras, no matter how expensive, will ever manage to get the right exposure. Lets look at the second photo. If you would have meter for the camel driver, you would have end up with a completely bright sky while if you meter for the sky you would have end up with a very dark (more dark then he is) person. :). Despite the amount of technology packed in them, the camera will always try to give you that 18% grey ( they do what they have been trained to do :) ) . It is your role ( and that applies to post-processing also)to decide before pressing the shutter button, what do you want to show in the photo. Think like that and you will see a huge improvement. Stay away from crooked horizon lines (unless you want to emphasize something) and do not be afraid to zoom in ( fill your frame with your subject
Keep an eye on the photos you like and always check the EXIF (all the info regarding the settings used for that particular exposure). If I see a photo that I like (on flickr or here) the first thing I always do is to check the exposure settings (EXIF).
The most important rule after all this is HAVE FUN :)
Enjoy and dont be afraid to ask. Loads of amazing photographers here.
Sorry for my english…hope I made myself clear :)

    NOW THIS IS LIFE

Ah no, photOvidiu, you should look again at the first picture.

His feet don’t actually reach the ground, and he seems quite uneasy.

And just look at her expression, it’s obvious to me who has the comfortable chair. :)

Thank you, angmcg1, for sharing. I just wish the camel had looked this way.

i do enjoy taking pics phot so dont worry i will jsut keep having fun.

you are right there are some amazing pics on this site, if i ever manage to be a fraction as talented as some of those on here i will be happy.

funny enough, i was just looking through some of my other stuff on the computer and i do seem to have a habit of taking pics with the horizon skewey, lol. must learn to stand up straight

pixelle, glad you liked them, agree with you, i think she has the better deal there. we had passed down earlier by them and she was sitting and he was bringing her out tea which i was suprised at, lol. when we came back up he asked us to take their photo, and the egyptian guy who was out guide told us we should take pics and give them a few bob for posing. they will do anything for a few bob or a couple of biros, they have so little compared to us here. he did give us tea after and we sat and had a good chat with him with our guide translating. it was a real eye opener of a holiday and a real humbling experience..

This is a really nice location shot…showing the character of the subjects in their natural environment. I agree with the other though, that it is in need of some basic editing.

I did a quick edit using just Picasa and finished off in Photofiltre, which is also free. I just straightened using the straighten tool in Picasa which couldn’t be simpler to use, then boosted the contrast and colours just a little, also in Picasa..then finally opened in Photofiltre and sharpened and added a simple frame.

I think it does more justice to what is a fine shot, and of course if I was editing in PS I could probably do better.

Hope you don’t mind me posting the edit.

    Cheers

Thanks Ang. Photofiltre comes as a paid version and a free version. The free version is quite useful if you don’t have access to Photoshop. It isn’t as powerful of course, but a lot of the basic stuff is there and most importantly you have some control over things like sharpening and levels which is not really the case in Picasa.

Keep up the good work anyway, and post some more shots from Egypt if you have any.

i have photoshop sc2 on my computer, just dont know how to use it yet. finding a course around here is not easy,

have loads of pics from egypt. the pictures were taken using a Fuji Finepix A340 so the quality may not be as good.

will have a look and see what section i think that some of them will fit in best, possibly travel or landscapes, apologies if they go in the wrong section.

couple more though here of people taken in egypt. first one is probably the best of these, the one in the boat is just a bit too far away.
