Photo critique Landscape Section
-
gregorParticipant
I was debating with myself for a while either to post this topic or not. There are plenty photos posted in landscape section; some of those posts have several photos attached. So here is the problem, well I’m usually lurking through all the posts however I comment only on some of the photos. I am not sure if someone who posts 3 or even more photos per post is looking for some constructive critique or just asking which one is better. I also noticed that good few users are shifting from that section to different ones what is the real reason behind it? So what other members think about it?
PS. I am not giving out to anyone who posts multiple photos per post, I just scroll down quickly and don’t even bother to comment, perhaps not the right attitude.
Poulet et Lait…MemberI’ve noticed over the last while that there has been this very large increase in landscape posts to the extent that that’s all there seems to be which is a bit off-putting on this site. Seems some people just have alot of separate threads going at the same time with their work, which I think they should limit.
bingbongbiddleyParticipantThis topic has come up before. If you hang around enough forums you’ll see that there are constant different trends emerging – such as people posting less in the Landscape or more in Nature and Wildlife etc.
You guys contradict each other here anyway. Gregor says less people are posting in Landscape and Chicken and Milk says more people are. Forums are in a constant state of flux – people don’t post in different areas for loads of different reasons, usually it’s hard to pinpoint them.
Personally, I think there’s a lot of great shots posted in the Landscape section, I also think there’s a fair few sh*t ones, and a huge amount of ones which are of a quite pretty location but completely derivative and unoriginal – there of the sea, the sun and some sand. Snorezville.
The Landscape section has been very dominant since I joined this forum about a year and a half ago.
I know you guys are just trying to improve the forum by getting a bit more balance, but in my opinion I wouldn’t worry about it. I just read the posts I want, if I feel like commenting on something I do – whether it be positive or negative. The site would be better served by posting more pictures or starting philisophical debates about a photographers role in the world than wondering why more people don’t post in the Food section.
Just my 49 cents worth, not trying to bash you guys or anything. Just do your thing and don’t mind me.

gregorParticipantHey Alan
I think I did not express myself correctly, what I meant to say by saying that some people are shifting away is that there were good few people well experienced that had great input to that section, and you don’t see them there anymore.
I’m not trying to improve that board or particular section; I just wonder what those people expectations are, Can they expect some good critique? I have to say that I agree with what Contact Poulet et Lait is sayingThis topic has come up before. If you hang around enough forums you’ll see that there are constant different trends emerging – such as people posting less in the Landscape or more in Nature and Wildlife etc.
Yeap I think it was NFL that started similar topic.
Thanks for all the comments. It’s interesting to see different opinions anyway.
PS. I’m sorry if I don’t express myself correctly I blame it for being not a native speaker
MartinOCParticipantI think when people post numerous shots they are looking for more general comments, perhaps on the style or which work and which don’t.
Just general pointers as feedback.
If one shot is posted it might get more in-depth analysis. If I was living in Ireland I would probably be posting landscapes and seacape shots, perhaps not as my main topic but it is a very obvious topic for Ireland, as street is for NY or Paris.
I think people move on because they get bored, they learn the skill, have taken the shot they want, and done it a few times so move on to some other challenge, whether it be a new subject area, or switch to film, or start a photography project.
Not many people comment on photos in the less used forum subjects (like abstract), that might be why there are less posts there, recently I counted the threads in a section and found that 25% of thread had no answers (can’t remember which it was).
Just the way it is.
