A white backdrop – muslin or white cloth (there is a white material I got on Ebay once that is anti-crease and its great).
Then use a couple of studio flashes set about 1 to 2 stops higher than your main lights just lighting that white backdrop making sure they cant spill over on to the subject.

You can also brighten up the white backdrop on Photoshop

Hi Eamo, Like Gerry said the only way to get the background white is with extra lights. Elinchrom’s D-Lite kits are a good bet (I am biased as we are the Irish agents). Have a look at: http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/flash-heads-and-kits.htm .

I have Bowens lights here for years that I paid a small fortune for in the early 90’s. I have used Elinchrom lights in 3 other studios around the country and was more than pleased with them. I found they have a more pleasing colour tone also and better and finer control adjustments for digital photography (mine are per-digital of course). I also notice that Paddy sells the D-Lite kit today for less than I paid for 1 Bowens light unit in 1991 ! :( :( :( :x :x :x
