A little house where nobody goes…

For the first time in months I went out with camera with intent – a lot going on but now is the time to start back. :)

This won’t appeal to everyone…maybe no one, but this was always an interest in me – the work of Michael Kenna. His straight forward, simple, contrasty images with no complications are to me what Man Utd are to others – you either love ’em or hate ’em. I love ’em (not Utd, the images of MK).

Great job, absolutely love it, the simplicity of it makes it a standout. Well done Alan.

Thats my sort of shot Alan, just think the house is a little far off or small in the composition

I like it Alan, and the other shot. It makes a refreshing change from all the HDR lark and wacky colours going on in this section, well done. Try and shake the place up a bit :)

Great shot Alan. Have to agree with Sean, the simplicity makes the shot.

These two ‘isolation’ photos are both excellent.

There is a strange lighter area just above the horizon on the left side… is that the result of image manipulation or that was there originally?

like it a lot! great minimalism

I like the simplicity of the shot although I would have to agree with piusno in that the house could be a little larger in the shot.

    Lovely work, Alan…

I’m a huge Kenna fan myself, and his influence in this is clear.
    Very simple and great tones.

    Thumbs up from me.

very simple composition its the sort of tonal graduation I always find makes sensor dust show up badly :)

Thanks folks. I wasn’t sure how this would be received – normal trends are a long way from this sort of photography. The house is actually a boat house so is quite small anyway. I had seen it many years ago and several times since and wanted to get a long exposure shot of it. Landing at the spot on Saturday I realised I’d forgotten the step down ring for the 24-70mm with the ND110 so I had to use the 10-20mm – not ideal but I will revisit to get something more square on and bigger with clouds. I can’t divulge the location as our club forum has a competition for people to locate where the image was taken.

Zoltan – I see what you mean – I hadn’t noticed it previously. It does look like a loose hand dodging the mainland – I’ll have to rework it.

    Alan.
