Anyone using this lens Sigma 120mm-300mm f/2.8

Or is everyone on 300mm f/2.8 primes?

I’m guessing f/2.8 is a must for shots for games in the evening/under lights, but is it still critical for a hurling game at 3pm in February?

    TIA

Buy if you can afford it.
It is Ireland. It’s always dark here in february afternoon. Try with other lens you have, what speed, aperture and iso you are going to use to have proper exposition.
Serious sport photographer would buy nikon d3 and nikkor 200/2.

You need at least a 300mm for sports. 200mm would be way too short.

I looked at the Sigma but decided to go for the Canon 300mm f2.8 instead. Wasn’t disappointed. The wait while saving was worth it.

A 300 f2.8 is a brillant lens, the advantage of the prime fixed 300 is the adjustable zoom at f2.8. For field sports this a huge advantage in that you can keep up with the action closer than the fixed 300.

have a look in the for sale section there is a 300 f2.8 nikon for sale at €1450 ish.

I know someone with that lens and finds it great. Yeah, a range up to 300mm is great, and especially with fast f/2.8 glass.

    Personally, I use a 300mm f/2.8 prime, with a 70-200mm f/2.8 on my second body.

Just buy what you can afford, and that lens should be good for what you want.
