My great-grandfather was in the British Army and my grandfather was born in Pakistan, in a town called Quetta in 1904. This was a garrison town on the western border with Iran, I suppose it was a frontier town as at this time India included what is now Pakistan. Believe it or not, in 1904 Quetta had a big Irish population. Anyway, I visited there a few years back while travelling in Asia. These photos were actually taken on the train journey on the way there, two of the train and two of the view. The village is in the Sind desert, an incredibly hot region. The train stopped along the way, and a chap I’d been chatting to on the train was very happy to introduce me to the chief of his village clan, who bought me a pepsi.
Can only see 2 of the images. The first of the train has a wonderful warmth to it. The rich red in the tree and the train’s lustrous gold colour make this for me
The third of the distant buildings shows a harsh environment where the squat, near windowless buildings provide protection from the harsh environment for their occupants. Was the picture taken from the train?
