Ellora is a really impressive place, I daresay awe-inspiring….
I think this would be one of my favourite ever photos if the damn sky wasn’t so bright…..
kavanadbParticipantwow, the scale is magnificant. good that you got the figures in the picture, makes it all the more fantastic. I love the light on structures in the left of the photo but it is a shame about the sky. great work man, im putting Ellora on my list of must see places for travelling next summer!
Liam2673Participantthanks Desmond. Its a fantastic place all right, although my impressions of it may have been influenced by the surprise element of knowing nothing about it in advance, I thought it would be just another temple, but its way more than that. (i) all the temples are carved into the rock of the cliff-face, as opposed to building a temple piece by piece. THe implication is that they couldn’t afford to make one mistake, otherwise the whole lot is ruined (ii) the first 17 temples are Buddhist, then as trends change in history, the second 18 temples are Hindu (there are 35 in all). But it was inspiring that the Hindus chose to respect the older Buddhist temples and not desecrate them in anyway….about 7 hours from Bombay by train from memory, which is just down the road in India.
here’s another effort from same.
DeeboParticipantNice shot Liam, I have to admit I am envious of the places that you have been too and snapped. some amazing places and I look forward to seeing your posts.
This is another lovely one and the sky does take away abit but it also has so many other aspects like the lovely light, carvings and people
Why not convert to mono and try using the whiteness of the sky.Dee
Liam2673Participantwill try it Dee, I like the colours of the Saris though…..thats the problem with darkening the sky……I lose the colour elsewhere in the photo.
Liam2673ParticipantDeeboParticipantHi Liam
I think the colour of the outfits do make the shot. In the mono version the sky has went to grey.
I had a quick mono edit and kept the sky white and then selctively coloured in the womens clothes. It has some potential. I can PM this to you
