This ruins are scary AND beautiful. 2 times a group of young bulls where chaising me over the field. i never run so fast in my life. This time they moved to another field. I took this image during sunset, it was a bit foggy so the light was very soft and mystical which suits the castle. Cheers Madeleine
First shot: hdr, 3 exposures / second shot: redfilter
EDIT: sorry folks i had a copyright infringment, so i have to protect the images bit more. i hope it is not too ennoying. cheers M*
SteveDParticipantVery nice Madeleine! Is there anything a landscaper needs that Kerry doesn’t have!!??
I really like the B&W shot. Do you simulate the red filter during post-processing, or are you shooting B&W in-camera?
MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantHi Steven, I know it sounds strange but i put a red filter infront of the lense although i work with the canon 1Ds MarkIII. I am just trying to figure out how this effects the grain…. usually i would choose the redfilter in the post processing. but my experiment isn’T finished right now. i will let you know. p.e. this storm image
https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=25795 i took with a real red filter as well and my theory is, that the postconverting will damage the pixels, but it is still a wild theory of me ( ;
And regarding your questions: i have trouble to find rivers and cascades …but maybe it is just me 8-)
EDIT: i also use the redfilter to slow down the shutterspead to get the flow in the sky. it worked pretty well because i was aiming for the softness in the sky.
sean1098MemberBeautiful , when i scrolled down to the first…….my jaw literally dropped. Absolutely love it. The light/clarity…well evrything.
Dont suppose you want a print swap..:lol: :lol: :lol:
The second is a cracker too.
Sean.
Mr.HParticipantSecond one for me also Madeleine. Very central in composition, which I guess is intentional.
As for rivers and cascades in Kerry… well where to start! I really enjoy photographing the stream up above torc waterfall. Great on those Kerry days when the sun just isn’t going to come out. Also give the old bridge at Glencar a go… It’s on my list of places to go back to (with wellies). i’m sure theres plenty more out there that I don’t know.

mgstParticipantpiusno1MemberBoth great shots Madeleine, the first one Id say would look good in IR as well. But I love the mood of no. 2, did you bracket your shots to get the exposure right or was it PP.
MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantSean: thanks for your lovely feedback, I love your enthusiasm. Regarding printswop – I did it so often that i have so many prints and paintings now that i don’t know how and where to hang them and have to stop it ( ;
Mr. H : yes killarney is toooo far away ( ; i will concore the nationalpark later because i still miss it in my portfolio. Killarney national park gave me my first pic ever in irelnd and actually still my best one (in my eyes)
Mick: yes the sky is cool. i think it was foggy in whole ireland in the last 3 days. When the fog goes, there is usually a fantastic sky with cirrus clouds (ice clouds). I was fancinated by geography lessons in school, regarding clouds and weather, cumulus stratus, nimbostratus…..so i try to guess which clouds we will see next day and usually i am right :D…..and i hate dirty clouds days….never ever press the button of the camera!
piusno1: yes i tried the IR conversion as well but i was more in love with the colour version….as usual
TompixBandonMemberSuper photo. I like the fact that the viewer is brought so close to the details of the inside of the castle because the framing is tight – it almost has a feeling for those who used to live and work in it.
Great processing and conservation of detail.MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantthanks Tom, first i thought that i am too close but then i realized that it attracts the eyes in a special way, indeed very close feeling in the image but don’t know the reason for it ( : Cheers Madeleine
kdolinnyParticipantThomas GeeMemberto get away from a bull they say run downhill.
bulls front lega are shorter and he cannot run downhill. lol
The shots are as usual stunning.
keep up the good workMadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantHi Thomas, the Group of young Bulls run DOWNHILL…special kerry species?! Well my father told me stories about the “hill cattles”, their left legs are shorter than the right side. so they had to surround the whole mountain because they were just able to walk in one direction. I deeply believed that until i was 12 years old :lol: (i am sure my english is very strange in this case…and some others ( ;
Well in that moment i had no reason to laugh. My mainfocus was, to save my camera instead of myself….photographers are strange right?!
thanks for your lovely feedback. ( ;
