Was over at this game yesterday. Good battle, Crokes won by 6 but with 6 minutes left I though we were in for extra time it was that close!
Great to have that feeling of spring in the air, makes it even more enjoyable…

Hi John. Nice shots. Mr. Vaughan made up for his last perfromance in a semi against a Galway team!!

Quick question though, I saw on another thread that you have the 300mm stuck to the body all the time. What 300mm is this? Reason I ask is because these shots look ever so slightly soft to me. Or is this because of the quality they were converted to?

Hi Aindreas, I’m using a 300mm 2.8 VR, Nikon. Your right about the softness. It happens from time to time but I would have normally thought that was down to the speed of focus by my camera which is the D200, not particularly designed for sport! Do you think it’s the lens?
This was the result a couple of frames later with the Mark Vaughan image:

The results from the lens are usually good.

Vaughan was very good. Scored some great points and the goal was a beauty. I think they have their work cut out in the final, Cross are such a great championship side. You never know I guess.

Had a look through some of your images on flickr, very impressed. You’ve definitely got a great eye..

    Hi John

I have no idea whether it would be the lens or the camera although your explanation does make sense as that other shot above is tack sharp. I use a Canon 40D and I can get softish images off the 70-200mm lens also and it never dawned on me that it might be the AF struggling to keep up. Makes sense I suppose. Unfortunately I don’t have the €2K spare to shell out on a 1DMkIII at the minute!!

I had a look at your wesbsite. Some excellent stuff on it. Do you work freelance for a paper or how do you get access to the games? I’d love to have a go at the golf sometime.

I go to a few games myself but never build up the courage to just walk onto the field and act like I should be there!! I’m always afraid I’ll be approached and asked to leave! Que embarrasment all round. I suppose I’ll just have to grow a set and get on with it.
