Canon tc-80n3 alternative?

  Hi all, I’m looking to get a cable release with timer function for my canon 40D, the official canon one is the tc-80n3, but I see a lot of alternatives for sale, especially on ebay at abot 25-40% the price not made by canon.

  Here in Ireland a new one costs €140 upwards, which is a riduculous price. Should I go with any of the alternatives instead?
