LIPF Discussion Thread
-
figParticipant
Well after going to the workshop on distinctions held in Athlone by the Midlands Photography Club at the weekend, I’ve decided to give my LIPF a go. The workshop was very helpful on the whole idea of cohesion and how to layout a panel but I think you still need other peoples input to make sure it looks right and that your photography is represented well. On that note I’m starting this thread to get feedback on my own proposed panel and hopefully start a place where anyone who is going for a distinction in April can post their panel and get advice.
I have been playing with two panels:
Panel 1 Layout: http://phil.caint.com/lipf/images/lipf_panel.jpg
Panel 1 Images: http://phil.caint.com/lipf/Panel 2 Layout: http://phil.caint.com/lipf2/images/lipf_panel_2.jpg
Panel 2 Images: http://phil.caint.com/lipf2/I am trying to figure out which panel is best (with L distinction in mind, not best photos) and if I need to rearrange or remove any weak photos (That my biased eye can’t see)

lousyParticipantI went for the ‘Licentiate’ last Oct/ Nov and achieved it. I posted on this very topic some months back and I am still of the same opinion.
I did the workshop as you did and my panel was based on what I learned from that. I was asked to produce my panel here, but declined on the basis that if I achieve the ‘L’ I will be doing so on my own merits and equally if I don’t achieve it , it will also be on my own merits.
I saw others putting up their panels and various advice coming forth saying ‘I’d change this one to here and the other one to there ‘ etc etc and it can become confusing and maybe you wouldn’t know what advice to go with. So I just went along and did my own thing.
Having said that the advice can be very good and could win it for you …or loose it for you too.
Whatever you’re happiest with. I wish you the best of luck whatever way you go.Pat
figParticipantI know what you mean Pat but the way I look at it is information can’t hurt. I will of course listen to what people say but at the end of the day I will go with what I feel is the best panel I can put out there. I’m posting my panel here cause I generally think the advice you get here is good and there seems to be a good few people like yourself who have your distinctions already.

I agree entirely Phil but I have viewed your panels and feel they are very good, and the quality you have produced here on different occassions is of a very high standard, and I do believe that what you learned from the workshop is sufficient.
Ah don’t mind me Phil, it’s just a personal thing with me.. just getting it off my chest.Preferred the second panel though !!!

figParticipantciaranParticipantThe links don’t appear to load :?:
I went for my L last April (panel here: http://www.thewonderoflight.com/galleries/v/IPF/LIPF/) and then my A last November (panel here: http://www.thewonderoflight.com/galleries/v/IPF/AIPF/). I find it frustrating that more panels aren’t on line :? I’ll hold back from posting my F panel until the day itself. Best of luck with yours… so who else is going for them?
ciaranParticipantThey’re working now :?: If your images print as well as they look here, you’ll walk the L. Really strong shots and as a panel both work very well. I’d be inclined to opt for panel 2, but would have confidence entering either.
