Lighting Setup for Product Shots for the Web
-

Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum & I am hoping someone can help me out. I am looking for some information on the type of lighting set up I’d need in order to take some product shots ranging from small mp3 players to large 52″ LCDs. The product shots are for the job who sell products online through their webstore eBay & Amazon. Currently we use manufacturers pics but I am looking to introduce real photos in order to highlight mainly the quality of some of the refurbished products we sell. I have been doing a bit of research on google but have been a little overwhelmed by the all the different set ups & suggestions pepole recommend you use. Basically I have a room to use that has no windows/natural light a Canon 40d & I am looking for information on the backdrops, lights, umbrellas etc that I’ll need in order to construct a small studio on a small budget. Is there a kit I can purchase that contains everything I need or do I need to purchase items individually? Any information is much appreciated.
stcstcMemberi suggest you actually go to one of the pro suppliers
like barkerphotographic who are a sponsor here
also, taking shots of a big plasma screen and an mp3 player need two very very different setups

You’ll have a bit of a job fitting a 50″ Plasma in to a light box. I would recommend this from Paddy Barker

Something like the D-Lite 2 or D-Lite 4 kits and a small background system from Lastolite and you could set yourself up with a very effective and cheap studio. You get to lights, stands, soft boxes, cables and an instruction DVD starting from €493 plus VAT and else where he has a portable backdrop for €122 plus VAT. A roll of background paper should set you back around €55 for the smaller size, which is all you would need (1.35m wide)
