I’m looking around for quotes for Professional Indemnity insurance. I’ve got a quote of 330 to start with. Anybody on here with PI care to share their insurance company? I’ve not had PI before, only PL so looking to fully insurance myself.
    Thanks!

I’ve all my insurance through these guys – Photo-Shield

    Great service and brilliant prices.

I don’t have PI, since I didn’t need it, but their quote for PL and gear insurance was so much better than any other quote I got in Ireland.

Another vote for Photo Shield, PI and PL, best quote available…

Mark, I’m not looking for PI myself but my PL & gear insurance is due shortly. Currently with FBD, have requested a quote from Photo Shield as mentioned already and http://www.towergatecamerasure.ie/ as well. I’ve seen mention of the PPAI insurance scheme but I’m guessing with your present style of work the PPAI may not be for you. Good luck in your quest. I’d be interested in hearing of experiences with any of the companies I’ve mentioned above.

When you contact Steve as Photo Shield, let him know you came via the site here
and he’ll do a good deal for you. :)

Photoshield seems good…especially with the PI. Cheers guys.

I received a quote from photoshield which was much better than any other, that was incuding public and employes liability, professional indemnity and equipment.

I did use quinn as I needed immediate cover for public liability but as soon as budget stretches I will go with photo shield and get all my portable and studio equipment covered also. THe quinn price for only public was over 100 dearer than photo shield for all insurances.

I got a quote from photoshield for €560. Pl, PL and equipment. Sounds like yours is a better offer. Who quoted you that one?

(Hey Mark, maybe I’ll get back onto them and ask for Steve!)

    Michella,

Ya, you definitely should, because its Steve who’ll actually give you the best price as a PI member :)
I’d imagine that the other people are the company might not be fully aware of this arrangement we
    have with him.

You need to ring or email him directly, as he’s looking after their Ireland business.

In case you do here are his details:

Cheers Mark. Rachel (2 posts up) did tell me about him but when I called he wasn’t available. I’ll try again on Monday and give update when I make contact with him.

I believe Steve will be at PhotoFest tomorrow, so he may not be in the office Monday.

He’s brilliant to deal with though.

general question on this theme .. what are typical insurance costs for photographers ?
I did look into getting my kit insured along with €3m PL and it was quoted at ~10% of the cost of my equipment. Is this normal ?
Say about ~€5k worth of cameras, lenses, and laptop, is it really normal for the insurance to be such a high proportion ? Or is it the PL insurance that pushes it so high?

    The PL is quite high.

For me, I’ve 27k worth of gear, and 2.6m PL, which costs me just over €550 per annum.

I guess it will really depend on the cover you have (excess, exclusions, clauses, etc)
