The Sun’s Come Out Play

Hi there
just saw that 70+ people had looked and none were bothered to leave a comment. There’s a lot of that.
This photo doesn’t do much for me. The mono treatment does lift the attention to the face, which is an interesting idea for a difficult colour picture
On close inspection there’s some marks on the chin and some blue showing in the hood.
All the best
Sean
Des.HParticipantthanks Sean for your comments, Its like a lot of other boards unless your in the click no one seems to bother. Thanks once again for your comments.

I’d have to disagree, usually the people who complain most about not getting comments don’t bother posting comments themselves.
It’s a vicious circle.Nobody owes anyone a comment, believe it or not, it’s usually about whether the picture can move someone enough to write something.
People who complain about cliques after making 4 posts might not be doing themselves any favours.joseph
nfl-fanParticipantIf you want critique I’ll tell you that from a technical perspective I find the image poor. It appears noisy, it looks like you’ve used some sort of colour pop technique that does nothing but make it looks like you had a flash light in his face with everything else looking under-exposed and I don’t like the composition.
If it’s your son and you can relate to the picture beyond the scope of technical correctness then you might feel free to be happy with it… I take lots of pictures of my young lad, but I don’t tend to put them up for critique very often… it’s a family thing, they don’t need critique.

5faytheParticipantMust agree with jb7. I’m only new here. I have had a reply to every post. There is also a load of information available in the old threads. Early days, but my gut instinct is that if you need help with anything photographic it will be forthcoming on this site.
John.Des.HParticipantnfl-fan,
Thank you for taking time to comment. your critique has been taken on-board. And will only be of benefit to me as i progress.
And thanks to you john for your advice :D
HolditParticipantI think some people don’t leave many comments because they feel that they lack the expertise to provide meaningful appreciation or criticism. At least, that’s why I don’t comment much although I’d say I’m not alone in that.

HolditParticipantI forgot to comment on the picture!
(Non-expert alert!) I think the idea is better than the execution. Squints are bad generally, as I’ve recently found out – funny how something seems so obvious once its pointed out to you. In addition, the subject seems to be pulling a face. Now this is a personal thing, but I much prefer natural expressions that give a clue to the subjects character.
For what it’s worth, there is a bunch of regular and what appear to be longtime contributors here, but for my money they don’t act like a clique, and I’m sure I’ve had comments from all of them at some point.

Theres a click hmm maybe you mean some guys that have known each other for good while and maybe have meet up on PI trips and even shared a pint or two at some stage. As for me sometimes I comment on something but mostly I dont, alot of the time im just flicking around the sport and wedding section some really good sport photo people with regular posting of high quality shots, I always feel like I can learn something just from looking at their work even if im lazy and dont comment on it, sometimes I post something and yes its nice if someone says ” nice shot mate” but I dont get to upset over it if they dont maybe its not good enough, maybe they are like me and are lazy a tad, or maybe becasue I dont comment on their shots.
But the times that I have made comment or asked a question they have answered that query.. I hope to make it on PI trip someday if the trip is something that would interest me. So relax alittle enjoy and remember if your happy with the shot and enjoyed the experience of taking it then you have a winner, we all have our own levels of skill and that level should be enjoyed. and this is the longest post ive ever made
