First Film Processing
-
darraghParticipant
Hi,
I finally got to process my first roll of film (Pan F) and I am pretty happy with the results.
It took at least an hour of frustration trying to get the 120 into the reel and I ended up kinking it in a few places.
But after my hour of cursing and swearing, I managed to get the film into the tank.
Processed in Rodinal 1+25 for 6 mins
This is my result
There is alot of big marks on the image, so not sure if they are from drying or my finger prints when trying to load the film onto the reel.

petergordonMemberEddieParticipantDarragh, it’s not an easy task so you have done well, it looks a fine image nice lighting and a good sky. Sometimes heating the spiral can help, leaving it on a Radiator for a few minutes or giving it a quick blast with a hair dryer just before loading. It’s not widely recommended (not sure why) but I sometimes load from the bottom first wrapping the film sticky tape that was attached to the paper over the film edge to give it body.
AllinthemindParticipantLooks good to me Darragh. I blow a hairdryer through the black bag to pump it up and dry it out a bit. Moisture is the enemy when loading film. I wash my hands thoroughly and only try and load the film when my hands are cool and dry.

FintanParticipantI really wish my first roll of film looked that good, far from it. Well done.
The other lads give good advice, any moisture on the reels make it extra hard. It will get easier with practice and experience.
Well done again, thats a brilliant start.

darraghParticipantThanks for the tips. I am definitely going to try that hair dryer tip.
Moisture, even small droplets of water on the reels seem to make it difficult and end up kinking the film, so drying out will really helpDarragh
darraghParticipantThe hair dryer tip worked a treat, it was a piece of cake loading the rolls of 120 onto the reels, no squeaks loading the film and no kinks in the film
Thank you
