I didn’t post anything in the last few weeks… so here we go. These have been taken on the dress rehearsal of the above named production by the Painted Filly theatre group in the Samuel Beckett Theatre. Nice venue, but the lighting was quite dim. A big plus was that the stage is surrounded by the audience, and it’s like an acting arena. The play is worth a look if you have time for stuff like culture and entertainment..
Nikon D200, Nikkor 105/2 and 50/1.4
jessthespringerParticipantI can’t remember the last time I went out to see a play, too long ago…
I like this set Zoltan, the first looks like it might be a tiny bit soft?
It might just be this screen I’m viewing from though (must try and convince
my boss we need a better screen).Really like the third, really nice framing.
I should make some time for culture and entertainment, you know, get out more…

randomwayMemberThanks Sinead. They are all a bit soft, I had to work with f/2 and iso1600, so there wasn’t too much depth of field to play with.
Culture = good.
CooksterParticipantI like the 2nd shot. especially the DOF. the lighting on the red heads forhead is a bit hot, but not a major trauma. tough environment.
was this during a rehearsal. Do you use a silent enclosure??
Sean
randomwayMemberYeah, I only take photos on the rehearsals. I tend to be far away with a 105mm or 135mm lens, and the make sure that the crew are OK with the shutter noise. I did try hiding the camera in a sweater, and shooting through the sleeve, but it gets very sweaty after a while. For the quiet scenes with monologues and for wide angle I use a Mamiya 7. I had no complaints so far for the noise.
jb7ParticipantNo time for culture and entertainment here Zoltan…
This looks like a difficult job, within this space, with this lighting-
It’s interesting that only one picture shows faces, probably the strongest picture of the three,
though I find the framing a bit tight, particularly on the cutoff man on the right-I like the first too-
though it might have been more powerful if they were shot in line-
but depth of field would have been more of a problem-I don’t really get the third at all-
it may say something within the play,
but as somebody standingon the outside of culture and entertainment,
it doesn’t seem designed to beckon me in-Good job though Zoltan-
would quite like to do some of this stuff myself sometime-joseph
CooksterParticipantjb7ParticipantI’m very mixed up about gender,
it would appear, from some of my recent comments on this site-I should just play it safe, I suppose, and say ‘figure’
