I am not going to really give any opinions on tonality
as i think any photo of daffodils should be in colour.
People often say that you should be able to visualise
a picture in B&W and not all pictures look well in B&W.

When attending the National Nature Finals in Dublin Zoo
last year(they are on next Sunday again in the Zoo) the
judge who i thought was very good….he was of the opinion
that really nature subjects should be in colour as the vibrancy
of nature is only really shown in colour…thats not to say that
you follow so called rules like this to the bitter end..but
sometimes it helps to think of things like this

The photo you posted is a very nice photo..good depth of
field, sharp in the right places, low viewpoint which really helps.
Do you have this in colour?….would love to see it as i think it
would be a very good entry for the RTE Weather Photo Spring
Competition which is open at the moment for enteries but only
i think up to this weekend…check it out on their website.

I agree that it would have more impact in colour but I only had B/W film with me. I’m re-learning to shoot in b/w and I guess it will take time to start seeing again in monochrome. Colour in this format (4×5) is just too expensive. Thanks for your input. John

It doesn’t really matter so much what it looks like on a browser-
most people’s browsers are different anyway, so it’s not the same as looking at it on yours-

It’s not really apparent from this reduction that we’re looking at something from a big negative-
and as we’re looking at it in 8 bit, we’re only seeing 256 shades of grey,
whereas on your negative, you’re looking at subtly gradated tones.

What we can talk about are things like lighting and composition…

However, if you are digitizing your negs, you might look at duotoning or more,
which might hep to put back some subtlety into your processing-

good to see more big film being used around here-

    where is the image?
