Hi
I am considering getting the above mentioned Nikon AS-F 70-300mm VR lens, has anyone use this lens and what’s it like?? i know there are cheaper versions of this lens which are crap, but i have heard good things about this lens , but then , never from some one that has actually used it….
i know this is pushing it a bit.. but would anyone be willing to loan me the lens for a day or few hours, so i can test it in their area?

Hi niall, i used this lense before i got the 70-200 and thought it was very good. You wont be dissapointed with it. Pretty good value at the minute aswell.
sean.
TinyMemberThanks sean.. think im sold on it now as its a good price and i have a limited budget.. hanging to save enough to get a bigger and better lens will take years :-(
Sgt Major, if you follow the link below you will get a look at the lens.. however.. i dont rate the guy who is rating it too much….. just a personal thing..

Sgt_MajorMemberCheers Tiny!
What do you plan to shoot with it?
I’m saving for the 70-200VR 2.8 – I think the extra wait and cash will be worth it for a faster lens.
TinyMemberi plan to shoot just about everything with it really… some wildlife, some outdoor sports… anything and everything really. I cant afford a 70-200mm rv f2.8 as i am a broke student, facing a broke time as an unemployed graduate soon.. however the photographic society that i am a member of can afford a 20-200mm VR f2.8 and should have it over the summer….and i can use it when ever i like….. happy days !

Sgt_MajorMembernice one.
Hope the mods don’t mind, but Im selling my ‘bigma’ if you are interested: https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=27450
TinyMemberwhat part of the country are you in??? would love to try it out for a day if you’d let me borrow it… i might be tempted to get it… what is it like for wildlife? is is sharp at 500? how fast is it to focus?
Sgt_MajorMemberI’m in Belfast mate.
Wildlife its fantastic… pin sharp: http://www.irishphotography.co.uk/watermark.php?i=495
Right out to 500mm: http://www.irishphotography.co.uk/watermark.php?i=497
For football and team sports etc, it’s grand for focus speed, I use it for the paper I work for. I also shoot motorsport with it, and I’ll be honest, I find it a little slow to re focus on a fast moving target, but I still get good results with it:

http://www.irishphotography.co.uk/watermark.php?i=134I wouldn’t mind you borrowing it for a day on a “break it, pay for it” basis. Or I could book a day off work and shoot with you if you liked.
TinyMemberthe shots look great, but unfortunately i am at the other end of the country, in university of limerick, with exams looming ….. i cant see me getting the time to go to belfast before may 10th ( last exam is may 9th ).. but if you still have it then.. a trip up north to relax would defiantly be the way to relax after the exams i think :-)

Sgt_MajorMember:)
Sounds good mate.
I’m in for shoulder surgery on the 1st April, so should be back on my feet again by May…
