First model shoot . . . Second batch !!! Comments welcome
-
aoluainParticipant
Here is a follow on from my previous post of the same title.
Alex is wearing a different dress and I am using a different lens.
135mm about F4 ish, It is a manual focus lens which I think was
Forward focusing all the time . . . . annoying. Alex was just slightly
out of focus in most of them . . . . annoying.Anyway comments very welcome.
CooksterParticipantShame about the focus. As a set, I prefer these to the earlier green dress shots.
Sean
jessthespringerParticipantI prefer this set too.
I think maybe you created a challenge for yourself, with your choice of location.
I imagine the lighting in those trees must have been difficult, well I’d find it difficult anyway.I’m not sure about them Alan. You’ve gone to a bit of effort to include the location, but, the model
looks a little overdressed.
I think I like to see you closer to the model, with lighting that was maybe a bit more flattering, little
bit of flash and maybe a reflector.Portraits are not easy, especially location stuff like this. Well done for giving it a go.
Sinead
aoluainParticipantThanks guys,
Yea Alex prefered these also.
I hear ya Sinead, to be honest being my first shoot I didnt really give the location much thought.
The day was dull cloudy with the odd sun burst.
I know the ideal way to shoot on location would be with proper artificial lighting and reflectors
but thats for the future if I get into it on a big scale. My brother was also along and he has done work for Alex before and fashion shows and stuff
and he had the flash but ah I was trying to follow a style true to what I had in my own mind
and I know that isnt always what the model or agent wants, this was a bit of fun and a
really nice experience.Alan
RobMemberAnd always good to try something new Alan…
I prefer these to the first set also, and I’d go along with everything Sinead
mentioned. Keep it up. Take a look too at other photographers work, how they
place their models in the environment in such a way that the background really
does become secondary to the photograph’s main subject…HolditParticipantI’m going to be really cheeky here and stick my neck out with a couple of experimental crops I just did. I’ve been reading up about composition (Petersen) and I just applied the rule of thirds and the principle of right-side preference.
Paul
aoluainParticipantHi Paul,
How dare you . . .
Actually #1 is good and works better allright.
#2 I see the concept but for my own taste just too tight a crop.
Thanks Paul and again everyone and the heads up Rob
picturehouseMemberThese are really nice!
I like the pose and composition in the first one but her expression is a bit flat.
The second one might have been improved with a reflector to help brighten her eyes.
Like holdit’s crop on the thrid one. great shot! When’s the next one?
:)
DeeaoluainParticipantHa HA !!!!!!!!!
You know I was wondering if that was you!!!!!!!
Thanks, not sure when the next one is actually.
Give us a shout when you are up again and on for snappin!
picturehouseMemberMichellaParticipantAoluain,
I did a search for the last batch too and I don’t have a problem with the green dress, with exception to the first shot. I like this style of dress too, without the jacket. But would love to see the model wearing a long flowing dress for this type of location….from one who is addicted to fashion mags
The last shot is my preference, and Paul, I like the crop too. But too tight for my liking in the other as it doesn’t show enough location. I shall be checking out Peterson!
Overall, thumbs up! I love the leaves and the backdrop. Since it’s out of focus, it takes the emphasis off your model, Alex, being not as sharp as you would like. Looking forward to seeing more.
Michelle.
aoluainParticipantHi Michelle,
Just for you, oh and thanks for the comments :)
Your into fashion, as far as I know all these dresses are DESIGNER stuff!
ORIGINAL
CROPPED & DESATURATED
MichellaParticipantAoluain :)
Nice. I like the original one. Alex looks very relaxed. And you can’t see her cold legs!
And all I can say is….I want one of those dresses!
