Mystical Macgillycuddy’s Reeks

Well i expected a bright and blue sky sunrise. Instead of ..nature delivered this mystical light…which made me very excited.
PippateeMemberAs always Madelaine, your eye for detail and light, as well as your attention to colour, shine through in this shot. However, I have looked long and hard at this and for a long time I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was wrong.
Eventually I have decided that I actually want to see more of the foreground, and less of the cloud at the top ( perhaps not possible, but you cannot always get what you want :) )… and perhaps move that wonderful light to the right hand side of the shot, as opposed to central …
I know that the “Rule of Thirds” can be a bit of a cliché, but I think in this case, it is the way to go …
If this shot were mine, I’d be delighted with it, but it’s lacking some of the magic of your other work … hope you dont mind my $0.02 …

MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantHi Philip thanks for your thoughts….yes i agree. the composition of that image is not the best. actually it was a 300mm zoom into the landscape because the rest of it was kind of boring. Maybe a bit more sky would give the image more space to breath as it is a bit cloustophobic (don’t know the word….you know what i mean). Usually i wouldn’t press the button but i was so attrackted to the light between the mountains that i gave it a go. I still have a bunch of other images of this morning, will process them soon. MAybe these will work better. thanks for your ideas!
PippateeMemberI know what you mean Madeleine, as a landscaper I know what it’s like to see light that you like but not know what to do with it!! … the second image is really a more engaging image … beautiful ..
I was wondering, do you print much of your work … ?
rc53MemberI felt that there was too much foreground in the first pic; I prefer the second — simpler, and
shows off the light better — which is what it’s about.MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantThanks rc53 and Philip.
Actually whenever somebody orders a print, that is the first time that i see the image printed because i don’t sell anonymous prints, so every print was touched by me ( ;
My mainfocus are always the histograms… when they are balanced and the screen is calibrated then there is just a small danger for bad print surprises.
