Looking to add to my one camera eos 450d kit by buying a couple lenses and a flash

was thinking 50mm 1.8 mk II canon
    and 70-300 APO sigma
and a canon flash not sure model 430ex i think

had originally been thinking of getting a 70-200 2.8 sigma but then thinking maybe better to have more of a range as opposed to shelling out on a pricey lens

Any thoughts on theses lenses are they good – what would you do?

I have a Nikon and I have this lens for it. 70-300 APO sigma and I can recommend it highly. Good sharp images. The only downside is that with it being 4.5-5.6 you need to have good light when using it out doors., so once again fingers crossed for a decent irish summer

Heres a link to a shot I took with it at full zoom, handheld.

    There are more choices.
Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM – a bit more expensive than s70-300, but faster af and sharper.
Canon EF 70-200mm f4L USM – cheaper than s70-200, but slower (f/4) although af is more reliable.
Second one would be my choice. For wild nature photos I’d go rather for sigma 100-300/4 or better. This canon will be great for everything else. Can be used with excellent TC kenko x1.4.

    Hi Jason,

Went through this myself recently…. also to add to the kit lens for my 450d.

Paid a visit to Conns & Paul must have spent more than an hour showing me the options. Settled on a Sigma 70-300 DG APO. So far so good!

    Heres a few shots:

I am happy with it, didnt have a big budget so it fits well…… good macro too.

Best of luck and let us know/see how you get on.

Well thanks for help – i ended up chickening out on 70-200 2.8 for another year, instead got the sigma 70-300 and 50mm 1.8 – tried them out of box and really happy – the sigma is sturdier heavier than i thought it would be and seems quite fast

now just cant wait to get out there and test them out properly

Well had a quick run out at lunch with my new sigma 70-300 – pics below – light wasnt great using 400-800 iso but am happy as big difference than only getting to 55mm on kit lens
