Hey Rory I’m not from Dublin and dont know it to well to tell you of any good spots
I suppose there is endless street shots to be had around the city centre and along the
river you could get some river/city scapes
I’m sure some of the Dublin lads will be along soon to recommend places for you
You could type Dublin into flickr and get an idea

I’m not being cynical but right underneath your nose is a good place to start. Locations to take photographs are one thing but a location doesn’t make a photograph. Look for the unusual, the obscure, the lighting that falls on what’s around you. You’ll surprise yourself once you start looking.

    Hi Rory,

Don’t know if you are driving or not, if no and you have access to the Dart you can try:

    Howth Harbour :
From the Dart station there is plenty of access on the west pier, good shots of the trawlers, old nets, a view of light house etc etc.
There is a farmers market there on sunday, can get a few shots there.

Middle Pier provides more shots of trawlers and a few smaller boats on dry dock, a good head on view of the lighthouse.
Also the monument there for those lost at sea.

On the east, you can access both top and lower pier, for access to the top you have to go to the right of the toilet, oppsite the King Sitric, Ground is a bit uneven there, gets better though, gets a bit uneven at the elbow and again as you reach the join for the new lighthose, you get some good shots of the Island and Ballscadden bay and Kilrock (nose of Howth).

You can also access the lower pier, a lot easier, good shots along the pier and Lighthose up close. you can get right up to the new light house via the ramp, a bit steep.

Also there is Portmarnock and Malahide, there is a walkway in between them, can get some good shots off there.

    Good luck

One way of discovering areas is to join a local camera club, theres where you will gain knowledge and discover places members like to shoot, enter competitions and learn as you go along.

The Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin could be an option. A lot of it is on the flat and has pathways. Not sure what type
of photography you are in to but you could do Landscape, Architecture, Macro/Flowers, People all in the
    one spot.
I would also agree with the comment above about joining a club. You will find them very welcoming.
I’m involved with the Swords Photo Group if we are close by you could feel free to come along to
one of our meetings. Next one is this coming Wednesday.

Also, I’m sure you will get plenty of helpful advice from this forum.

I’m new to town (and Ireland for that matter) and photography, but I’ve been having a grand ol’ time roaming around in the various squares (spent yesterday in Merrion Square) just finding places where the light is interesting. Certainly worth a try!

    Hi Rory
Dublin has endless spots for you to explore.
I dont think being in a wheel chair will hinder you, i recall seeing a great article in one of the monhtly mags about a dude in a wheelchair and he had some great shots and got access to all locations. So go for it
Cheers and best of luck, Dee McLeish
