Taken this evening, go easy on me, am a total newbie (this is after all, only my 4th time using this camera, and this is the 1st camera I’ve used in about 10 years, bar phone cameras HA!…). At the same time, any hints/tips always appreciated!

welcome to the site.The first thing I will say is that I am no expert, as you will see if you look at my own posts.
I think your on the right track with this one.
The light is very good. You’ve made a decent stab as regards subject matter and composition.
I think the image could be improved considerably if you took about 4cms off the top of the image (i.e. so that the top of the image runs through that small tuft of cloud on the RHS. This will allow the poles to become a more dominant subject matter, while maintaining the attractive elements of colour and light.

You’ve got the right idea with the light and the using recession to add depth.
The composition is perhaps a bit unbalanced (tight to the bottom, empty to the top). Technically I could give a few ideas regarding depth of field etc but overall I think you just need to find some more interesting subject matter. I’m not hugely inspired by this subject (that’s just me) but if you use these ideas on better subjects, you will be getting cracking shots in no time.
I agree with the others and echo their comments. To Andy’s point about the subject matter there are a lod of good things going for the composition, particularly the fence leading you in to the image, unfortunately this is also where it lets you down as there is nothing interesting there when your eye reaches the end of the fence. For somebody who hasn’t used a camera in the last 10 years you have done a pretty good job here. Keep it up
