10 stop ND Filters? Where to buy.

Hello again lads and lasses. Long time since I was last really active on here!
I’ll have to make a thread to show what I was at for the last while.

Anyway, I was reading Practical Phtography today and their main article was about filters – and they really sold me a 10-stop ND Filter.

Now I usually buy my camera gear on eBay, but I couldnt find any there (madness!). I’ve lots of college stuff to do and I work when Im not doing it – so I just need to know are filters like these widely available in the bigger camera shops in Dublin City Centre and does anyone know a=what price they start at?

    Thanks again!

Try places like mymemory.com or 7dayshop.com

I got mine from 7dayshop. Can’t remember what I paid for it though. They can be very hard to find though.

7dayshop dont do them anymore, but there are some on ebay try looking for
110 filter rather than 10stop they are plenty on there but expensive, maybe
    $90 or so.

I posted this info before & was going to link but that search facility has the better of me again

This guy on eBay has them. Based in Germany. Ships to Ireland. Shipping reasonable. Accepts Paypal. Good service, used a few times:

    Mehfesto,

Also think carefully about the strength that you need. You will find it very hard to compose through a 10 stop.

I decided to buy a 6 stop which allows me to compose with my Lee grads in place. I can then slip in a Lee 3 stop at the time of the exposure if I need the extra exposure time.

Also you’ll often find that a 30 second exposure will look identical to a 4 minute one.

    Thanks for the tips lads.
Also Andy, can I get 6-stops handy in Ireland?

    Not sure.

I’m in the north and I ordered my B+W 106 (6 stop) ND filter from fotosense.co.uk

The 110s seem to be selling like hotcakes so you might have better luck with the 106 anyway.

I’ve also got a few filters from that seller on ebay mentioned above. Great prices and quick delivery every time.

do they not make these at 72mm ? is it possible to use a step up ring ? would this cause problems ?
    thanks

They do make em in 72mm I think. Most my lens are 72mm but I still bought the 77mm and a step
down ring. 77 works grand on the Canon 17-40 and then perefectly (with little vignetting) on my other
lens with the 72mm thread and step down.

I agree with Andy all the same… Was in a rush on Monday evening with a beautiful sunset… put
the step down (or up… depends what way you look at it) …. then the B+W 110… then the Lee
adapter then the Lee Grad…! Then I remembered I forgot to focus…!!!!!!!! Balls… took the shot
anyway with a 4 minute exposure, which I grossly underestimated…! Got an almost black frame…!
Nice….! With the 6 stop I probably wouldve been able to focus. Just……
