Brandy and a book

We had a still life session this evening at the camera club
I toyed with this but I think the candle is a bit bright

Just a tad and maybe a lower viewpoint would have worked better?
You could have called it “Bells, book and candle” :)

Yeah, the candle is bright but a bit of trickery with a lower exposure should correct this. I like the composition but would like a little bit more space at the top and I love the warm tones. The glasses, to me, seem a little lost in the shadow.

From what I’ve seen in still life it’s the smallest things that standout when your focus of attention is placed on something so intense. But I think this is a damn fine shot.

Thanks for comments folks I am really out of my comfort zone with
    this kind of stuff,
I think a bit more space and perhaps a different shape of candle will work better
We are doing portraits next week .Any volunteers

    Hi Cathal,

I have no experience of actually taking photos like this so purely
    a non technical opinion.

I like the athmosphere in this image.

I see what you mean about the candle.
Maybe if the candle itself was out of shot and the glass repositioned so the reflection
of the candle was centred in the glass.

Hey what do I know but I like it.

    John.
