Hi,
This is another photo I took on the same evening as the last photo I posted, Any comment is greatly appreciate it!
nfl-fanParticipantT’is better than the previous effort, not nearly as noisy – but still very harsh and lots of halos. Un-natural looking.
Would be interested in getting my hands on the original, assuming it’s a RAW file, to take a closer look.
It looks like a fantastic evening, I’d have liked to have been there.
Alan RossiterParticipantSomeone had their finger on the saturation trigger methinks. It looks like an overworked jpg to me – almost scarred by processing.
If you give the original to nfl he’ll run it through his process which I’m sure he’ll document. It looks lie a great evening but sometimes over processing just knocks the good out of what was good already.

markst33ParticipantI like it. Sometimes photos don’t have to be 100% realistic to be good. I like the composition and the angle you have taken it from is different to any photo
I have seen of this building (which I see everyday as I work beside it in the IFSC) in a long time. So keep experimenting.BMParticipantIt’s certainly a unique style. However, given the amount of effort you’ve put into the initial photograph, the processing does take away from it.
If I were you, I’d take NFL up on his offer. You would certainly see a different (and capable) perspective which might give you a staring point for your own style – perhaps with less powerful processing – and I’m sure that some notes on that (NFL’s) processing style would be provided.
There is also some barrel distortion caused by the focal length (18mm) which could be cotrected in PhotoShop.
stone0046MemberHiya,
Thanks everyone for the comments! I got a bit of luck on my side for this one really. It wasn’t actually my intention to capture the trail of lights , I only realised it after a few shots. It was actually an accidental “unique style”!
About the saturation issue. Yes, I indeed put some effort into the post editing in photoshop. But the unrealistic colour was actually done deliberately by me changing the white balance setting. I thought the sky would look a bit more impressive… I probably added too much of redish colour to the lights…
Cheers all!
