Improving my "eye" through constructive criticism
-
milo123Participant
Hi all. New to this. Still finding my way around this site.
I Love going into town (Dublin) with my son on Sunday mornings and seeing Dublin as it wakes.
Here are one or three of my most recent attempts.
Am new at photography so need as much constructive criticism as possible. Good advice can only make us better
ps
Thank you Shutterbug for your suggestion
Couple I seen on Sunday. Changed the pic for the competition this month.
A “different” Spire
Could not help but admire this great General Post Office on a fine day
PixelleMemberWhat I see in the GPO pic is the walkers on the left, all in step with each other.
They are reminiscent of marching soldiers and tie in with the history of the building somewhat.milo123ParticipantPixelleMember#4 might be better with either more or less of the building,
the little piece included just irritates,
or maybe I mean distracts. :)milo123Participantb318ispParticipant#1: I’d either get closer, zoom more or crop more.
#2: Too contrived
#3: Nice idea to frame this, but the tip needs to be visible
#4: The idea is fine, you really need much more wide angle on this to work or a lower viewpoint. Almost looks like a “mistake” shot as they idea of the statue looking on doesn’t jump out.
#5: Your best shot of the lot. Lighting and the pedestrians really add to this.milo123ParticipantdublinphotosParticipantAs a general observation for people shooting, I’d make sure in the future you shoot as wide open as possible, the most effective Street Photos is when you focus only on the subjects. It is a rule I try obey as much as I can.
The Joyce Spire is a great concept, but you need a way wider lens to achieve it.
Suggestion go try a roll on apeture priority set to wide open and snipe people – you need to get close as possible too, I use a fixed prime for pre-focussing and generally try to get within 2metres of the subject. set yourself this task for a day alone and check your results. it is good discipline.
hope this helps. ….
ps the roll thing –old habit as I use film..but I am sure you know what I meant
milo123Participantcool dp
I do understand the concept and will try same over the week end
Thanks again for the great advice
