Took this yesterday in harsh light, was trying out my new canon 2x mkII extender on my 600 f4 with a 1D mk IIn. This is a 50% crop of the original. Personally i’m impressed with the extender, i thought it would be very limiting and that i would lose image quality. With the 1.3 croped sensor of the 1D i now have 1560mm :D .The bird was about 50 meters away!!What do ye think of the image quality?

I think at that distance it’s a super shot, it certainly sharp but I think you have lost some of the detail due to the distance. Of course the lack of detail could be down to the harsh light.

That is some shot for that distance…. and he is small big anyways so it is very impressive!
    Well done

    Hi John
Just meant to ask .. what head and tripod were you using for this shot ?
    Thanks

Thanks lads, i think it’s hard to get feather detail at that range and also harsh light on wet feathers doesn’t help. I’m using a wimberley II head and a Gitzo GT3530LS.
