hi i was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the largest size print you can get from a 10 mega pix camera keeping the pic sharp!! have some nice ones of my kids i want to blow up!
jb7ParticipantThis must be a hard question, to be sitting here all night, unanswered…
As large as you like, is the answer-
Sharpness is subjective, it can be helped with software and good technique,
and pictures of kids are ideal candidates.
If the picture is really large,
most people accept that they’re just going to have to stand further away,
and realistically, the picture will be hung over a couch anyway. You will only ever be attracted into a picture until there’s no benefit in going any closer-
hopefully they won’t go so large that the room is too small to stand back enough…It helps if the picture is sharp, if that’s what concerns you,
that can’t really be put back if it’s not there to begin with…There are related questions, such as focus, depth of field, noise, blur due to shake and motion,
and actual resolution, though apparently that’s not a major concern-
The larger you go, the more these effects might become apparent…Talk to your printer if you’re unsure of up-rezzing (frightful word) and sharpening for print yourself-
Steve here (stcstc) might be able to help you-What size would you like to go to?
Hope it works out, you should post some pix-

Brian_CParticipantIt is a subjective question. It depends on the quality of the image file being printed too. Bear in mind Photoshop can also be used to interpolate, generate pixels, when you make an image bigger, but I’ve never really done this.
I’ve printed and sold 20x30inch prints from a 10.1mp lots of times and the quality has been nothing short of super.
But 20×30” is pretty big, using the right software you could easy go beyond that.IOPParticipanteamo8 wrote:

Eamo,
I’ve just done a quick check in Photoshop/Elements and a 10 megapixel image will happily print to 16.133 inches x 10.8 inches high without any enlargement.
Now comes the techie bit. This is assuming that the shots are being printed at 240 pixels per inch (ppi), which is what most prints are. With a little bit of work using techniques like unsharp mask (possible in Photoshop/Elements) I’ve got a 10 megapixel image (from a Nikon D200) enlarged to a 60in x 40in canvas which is now hanging in a restaurant local to me. So the real answer is you could go much bigger that 16in x 10.8in, certainly with images from Digital SLR’s,
