Would like to know what ye think,
Another version with no Orton effect but I did prefer the tighter crop and it was done in camera so no other version.
Here’s a non orton shot of the 1st one
jb7ParticipantI’m not sure if I’m the right person to ask,
not a big fan of applied blur or skin smoothing-I think this one is maybe a bit tightly cropped-
often you need to stand back a little to get the attitude-
I think there is some here, but it might have been cropped out…It might have been good to have her facing the light too,
just to see if there would be any difference-
not sure if the difference in tones on the shadow side is a good thing or not…Sorry not to sound more positive-
I think the applied blur is the first thing you (I) notice,
and it does set the tone…I think you should ask yourself why you did it-
Does the picture need it?Only my opinion, as usual, others will love it…

ExpresbroParticipantI’ve heard of the Orton affect…but know nothing about it. I know I much prefer the second shot of these two. So guess that means I wouldn’t be an Orton fan ;-)
Lovely black and white tones and a very photogenic subject. I don’t mind the crop in either…especially the second.
It would be nice to see the non blurred version of the first.
I like the eye contact in the first..but her gaze out of frame in the second is really interesting to me.

8)osheadParticipantI like the orton effect and have only seen it in colour. So +1 for trying something different. Unfortunately, for me at least, it dosn’t quite work here. The second shot is better without it IMO. I don’t like the fact that he is looking out of the scene. It gives the impression of disinterest. If you must take a shot of him looking else where, it would be better if his eyes were not turned so much. This would mean less white in the eyes and for me, thats more effective.
