First model shoot

    Hi,

I’m looking for some feedback on these shots. This was my first experiance with a model and also my first time in a studio.
Needless to say the pros make look a lot easier than it is! The model, Nikkie, was great, she had loads of patience.

    Thanks..

well your off to a great start!!

    – I love the soft femininity you have in the images
    – the square crop ones are really interesting
    – you’ve chosen a higher shooting angle making Nikkie look vulnerable – it works for me
    – I do think you’ve gone a bit far with skin softening

and lastly ;) – for the last one – the lighting is throwing it off for me – i’d prefer to see the light spilling across the nagative space to her – at the momet its too close to the edge of the image for me

    hope i’m making sense ?

    keep going ;)

    Hi Lorraine,

    Thanks for the comments..
Skin softening – Yep, I hear you there. It’s hard not to get carried away sometimes. I’ll pull it back a bit and see how it looks.
On your last comment, do you mean it would have been better to have her on the left of the shot with the light coming from the right?

Yeah , to me it seems like that would be the better option … but hey ;) everyone has an oppionion ;)

I know what you mean. I thought of that, but unfortunately I didn’t have enough space to crop it that way.

    Hey-
    I’ve got an oppionion-

Great model, good to hear that she was patient with you too-

I’d wholeheartedly agree about the softening thing-
a lot of texture has been lost, makes it look like you need to conceal something,
    and I doubt that’s the case…

It’s a bit difficult for me to see beneath that,
so I have to look for clues elsewhere-

It looks like all the lights were below the model’s head,
which might add to the glow,
but also does funny things to the modeling-

    Great first shoot,
but I’d try to keep the lighting simpler-
    maybe that’s just me…

Just because there are a lot of lights there doesn’t mean you have to use them all at once-
and it might be easier to see the effects of them if you used less to begin with-

Thanks Joseph. I’ve pulled the softening back now.

For the first two shots the light was slightly above her, from what I remember.
