I’ll be in North Yorkshire next week, for a week…..anyone recommend any places there for photography/ general scenic beauty? (I’ll be more on the moors side than the dales).
Liam2673Participantjb7ParticipantWell, York-
it’s a long time since I’ve been, but there’s a ruined civil war castle near Helmsley Gate-
worth a look maybe…Helmsley Gate is an odd little place too…
See if you can find any ‘Mouseman’ pubs-
interiors carved from solid oak,
with mice carved into the beams…Good excuse to sample some undrinkable beer,
if any was needed…Liam2673ParticipantThanks for this. We will be in Pickering, and that is reasonably near Helmsley so will probably visit there. Had not heard of Mouseman pubs, will keep an eye out.
Mr.HParticipantUsed have a girlfrind up that way but it’s a long time since I drove through there (especially the moors) so I am unfortunately going to be vague. It’s a nice spot – you will not struggle to find shots that’s for sure. If your doing the coast I seem to recall staithes featuring in a number of OP ‘locations’ features.
If you are travelling further west the area around richmond is lovely, also try aysgarth falls, although go early as its a popular spot.
A few of the UK’s more popular landscapers, like Joe cornish & lee frost, are based up there so it may be worth checking out their websites.
Although do note my pet hate #3 – Counties that feel they are important enough to but their name between ‘Full’ & ‘Breakfast’…
have fun.
Liam2673Participantone of the ironies of the place is that all these classic yorkshire dishes that they bang on about, ‘toad in the hole’ and so on, are nowhere to be found in Yorkshire, or so I’m told. Its all Tempura and Carbonara and Thai Red Curry.
(Mind you, Dublin the same).
PaddysnapperParticipantIf you are in Pickering you have the North York Moors Steam Railway……That should keep you happy for a while.
Next up the line Whitby
So that should be 2 days taken care of…. Enjoy.. It God’s Own Country!
