Hi all, just wondering, I’ve got a nikon sb 800 flash gun that wont fire. Can you recommend anyone reputable to repair this item and perhaps give a free estimate beforehand. Thanks.

SLR Service in Meath is where it needs to go. They are the only official Nikon repair agents in Ireland. I don’t know about free estimates, but they are fair! 046-9557151

They do quote for free, but wont quote until they have inspected it.

Is it totally dead or does the ‘ready’ light light up? If it does light, could be just the bulb, they are less than €20 from what I remember. I’ve changed four now in my SB600’s but you’d need to be able to solder and avoid touching the capacitor which can give a very nasty shock if not discharged! If you feel brave the part number is XE701 and you can order direct from Nikon. Otherwise the repair shouldn’t cost too much.

If the ready light doesn’t light it could be more expensive as there could be a board fault.

Thanks for responce lads, Paddy we’ve spoken on the phone. I’m the guy up in Longford who has been pricing large format printers off you recently.well I’ve since been in contact with the official Nikon people in Meath and all I’m waiting for now is to get the flash back from where it was first left in for repairs. If I’d known about them before hand…………..Anyway in answer to Cian the flash starts up as normal and I can enter and change the menus ok but it does not go into the flash ready mode nor does the ready mode light come on. I’ve tried different batteries but to no avail.
I have since purchased an sb 900 but would love to have the 800 back in working order as I want to experiment with off camera flash with it and my other flash the sb 600.I presume I will be able to use all three together.
