stupid question about flashes

Hi all
prob a silly question but does the speedlite 430 or 580 have any draw on the cameras battery or do they have their own batteries ?
as up till now i have had no need for extra battery life outside the 40d’s own battery. i was thinking of getting a battery grip for it ( thinking an external flash would have a big affect on battery life ) but am thinking now that if a change of camera is on the cards then i’ve wasted money on the grip.thanks
No…the flash gun has its own rechargable batteries and getting
a grip for the 40D is a very good idea as it balances the camera
very much so as well, and using the camera vertically becomes
much easier with the grip.Noel Browne.
