Hi.. I am working on a little project and I wanted to take some pics of some seals on a beach..
I have been to Howth, but over there they are in the water at the pier…. and I need the full shot and close ups so I need them laying at rocks or on a sandy beach…. I went to Bull Island today.. walked all the way up to the North of the Island and nothing.. (it was rainy and windy)
Can anybody suggest a good place where I can find some seals, as well as if possible under what conditions I might be able to find them?
at the top end of the bull, when the tide is just coming in you will find them. seals get put of by stormy conditions and leave their normal places, so if you give it a little while till the see has died down you should be good
Bulloch Harbour is a dead cert for head shots but if you head over to Dalkey Island you may get to see them lying up on the kelp covered rocks sunbathing if it’s sunny. There’s usually plenty in the area, probably best on a dead calm day where you can circle the island and shoot from the boat. There’s boat hire from Bulloch and there used to be from Coliemore Harbour also. They also used to do ferry trips over in the past and collect you an hour or so later, again not sure if this is still done – probably is.
