Like other people on the site, I have a bad habit of getting worked up about small things that don’t really matter.

The National Photographic Archives in Temple Bar Square, lovely building from the outside, lovely exhibition space inside, usually some quite interesting photos.

Open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday and half day Saturday.

So at the weekend when all of us are off work and the place is thronged with tourists, its closed. And mid-week when all of us are working and the tourists are not here, its open.

    whats the deal there?

I was reminded of this last week, when I had a day off work and wandered in at around 11am on a Thursday morning to find the two receptionist/curators yapping away over a cup of tea and biscuits, and no one else there. They didn’t even look up when i came in.

I thought it was closed on Mondays.

I was there last March and wondered why too!

Not to be an Irish Basher but it is typical of the country. For example, road works on the M50 during the day when the road is most in use. I believe on Spain they work at night – it might be because of the heat but wouldn’t it be logical? On a more serious matter – no social services available at the weekend when most people with tendencies decide enough is enough.

Ah, tis a lovely little country all the same…in it’s own way.

I agree Liam, I was there on a Thursday recently and the place was empty – also I found that it was impossible to view the photos because of reflections on the glass – doesn’t anyone use anti-reflective glass?
