Hi Brian,
This is quite a nice record photograph of the building.
Most of us long for clear blue skies but most times they can
look very uninteresting in a photograph.
The light in the middle of the day can also make subjects a little
flat.
Maybe a visit later/earlier in the day when the sun is lower or a shooting
angle that has less sky included might have produced a more interesting image.I understand that it is not always possible to be at a nice location when
conditions for image making are at their bestOf course my comments are purely an opinion and might seem like photography
cliche but I find that a nod towards the “rules” when weighing up a scene often
produces images that are more interesting to view.Cheers,
John.

It seems a little soft. It may be that it might need a little sharpening in your photo editor. This can greatly strengthen shots with stonework, to bring out the detail.
Or it could be the soft due to the settings..I had a look at the exif and it appears you were shooting at 1/1000 sec and F4.56 and ISO 400
If you have a bright day you has some room to play with in exposure settings. It is best to get the ISO down to 100, or 200 for a cleaner shot.
Also to get the photo sharper you might want to use a smaller aperture, eg f11.
Of course higher shutter speed is better for sharper images. But with a 35mm lens on a Canon 1000 it should be fine if you were shooting at 1/100 or 1/200, whilst adjusting ISO and f-stop for a sharper shot.
That’s what I understand anyway, I hope it helps.Regards,
Martin
