I took these a few months ago, being in an unfocused mood. Any thoughts?

I like the 1st best too. They do work, a study in colour and composition.
Number 3 as a square crop [just the top] would be my second favourite.
Number 2 just isn’t strong enough in composition I think.
    That’s what I think.

Coincidently I was out today using an extension tube (close-up with tiny dof) photographing flowers, with something like this in mind.
Have to wait to get the negs back to see if it worked.

    Wow! thanks for the replies.
I will try the sq crop.

Now I’m wondering if a very small part of a flower pic were to be in focus, how would that look?
To flimflam: they are all daffs. :)

I don’t get you… isn’t a small part of these photos in focus? For example the front edge in the first and the middle of the leaf in third seem to be in focus.
The in-focus bit need to be picked well, I would say, to make the composition work. Everything hangs off this point.
In the 2nd photo the in-focus bit (left edge) does not balance the composition, so it is the weakest photo, in my opinion.

I was hoping for a bit of focus but thought that i had been too subtle. Thanks for looking so carefully.

Love these. The shallow DOF works well. Like all 3.

The first really reminded me of this picture by Rodney Smith…

I’d agree with Martin re the square crop. The third looks to me like it’s up-side-down, square might also work with this, maybe.
Shooting these out of focus would put a really different perspective on things, as Martin says, it becomes a study on colour, form and composition.

I’ve been doing some out of focus photography myself lately, fun, but tougher than I initially thought.

It would be good to see how you develop this.

I thought these were all so beautiful and looked at everyone’s suggestions and then played around with these images for hours last night until I fell asleep!

Hopefully this evening Ill get a chance to finish up and present you with an edited version, but honestly…each image in it’s own right, just as it is..is already very appealing…gently relaxing..dreamy stuff girl!
