First time? Shot number one is as good as I have seen some pros take. the feeling of the action, the expressions on the players faces and most importantly probably is that the ball is in the shot too. WELL DONE
Thanks for the comments I was shooting with a Canon 50d, 70-200 is, 1/640, f/2.8, 200 mm and then cropped in.
Again thanks for the comments they are much appreciated.
The first one is OOF a little bit and underexposed. Strong sunlight is difficult to shoot sport in. If you’re shooting in Av or Tv, I find that if you use spot metering on the chest of the player then most of the time you will get the exposure correct.
Normally I’d have the camera in full manual mode and take a reading from the grass on the field and work from there as the less calculating the camera has to do then the faster it works! This is difficult to do when you have part of the playing pitch in shadow though and works best under floodlights or on overcast days.
The second one is a little busy with too much going on. There is no focal point to tell you whether someone was about to score or clear the ball and it’s very cluttered. The horizontal levels are way off so it makes it look like the pitch is sloped!
The third is the best of the lot. You have filled the frame, exposed perfectly, and both players and ball are in focus. You can’t really ask for much more there!
I’m only learning this lark myself so these are just my observations. Make of them what you will! :)
