This is a neg scan and I tried to get it as close to the print as possible, but this is not as rich in colour in the centre as the print.
I tried cloning out the light at the guys head but I think it adds to the shot as is.
This lane is full of tiny open restaurants with the smoke from noodle pots and charcoal grills bellowing out, so quite atmospheric.

    Whoa Martin another beltin shot.
This has stacks of interest to hold the viewers attention. Each time I look I can see another person or another sign to catch my eye
Brilliant title too, was the first post I checked today as the title had me hooked from the start

    Great Martin,

I am really enjoying your street scenes lately even though I didnt comment on
    mary poppins!

Really like this like the others it has a movie still look about it, very good
the big green advertisment to the left is great too nicely placed and it really adds to the scene.

Thanks guys, hopefully I can get a few more similar and make a series.
But soon I’ll be back in Ireland for a few weeks so I’ll be taking a break from these and snapping sheep instead.

I really like it. I doesn’t really look like North Korea. too much freedom. i can’t wait for my trip to china in September.

Love it – a great spot, nice and moody and timed to perfection. Only suggestion to crop a little of the dark on the right, but not too much. Does it also need a little CCW rotation?

    Thanks guys,

assorti: It’s not supposed to be in North Korea, but the spy is North Korean. Its in Tokyo. The guy sitting with the sake bottle is an anti-espionage officer, about to make his move.
On another note, I’m jealous, I have to get to China too soon. I went to HK and that was really cool but not yet to mainland, enjoy! Also want to go North Korea if possible, I was talking to a guy the same night I took this who has been there.

b318isp: Yes it could do with a rotation I think, the buildings seem pretty slanted here. I liked to keep all the sign on the left that is why I left it.
Unfortunately there was someone in the way on the right, luckily with black hair and clothes, but I lost detail there.
I will try again at the weekend to straighten and crop a bit, see if there is a good compromise.

    Cheers,

    Martin

    Great shot.

The question is, did the international man of mystery know you were following him, Martin?

Incidentally, are these places all bars or takeway food joints. Reminds me a bit of Spanish towns were all the tapas bars are bunched together.

Liam: of course not, my deep cover is never broken.

These are all little restaurants, usually about the size of a garden shed with a counter and stools at one side.
The main food in this little cluster is yakitori, which is chicken skewers grilled on charcoal (yaki = grill, tori = chicken/bird), of course they will grill potato/veg as well, and have a rice cooker and wok.
Below is a shot I took around the same place last year, the lantern reads ya-ki-to-ri.
Unfortunately I don’t have one looking in at people at a counter, I’m not as good as you at pointing at people, but I am gradually getting more people into my shots.

    Cheers,

    Martin

Thats for that Martin, interesting comments.

Second shot also very impressive, your night time shots are of a very high standard (though I must admit i would find the lantern a lot more evocative if I didn’t know the sign said “Grilled Chicken”…..ignorance is sometimes bliss!!!)
