Second Shooter

Hi :D
Been a while since I posted any wedding photos on here! I lost my job a few months ago but I was lucky enough to get work a few days a week with a local wedding/portrait photographer and a few weeks ago they were doing a wedding each one Saturday so I was asked to join them on one and be a second shooter for them.
I’ve shadowed one of them before but it was mearly for experience and just to see how things worked but this time I was there with responsibility. I loved it! Hard work though and made me realise I have some way to go yet before I could ever do a wedding on my own.
Equipment was a Nikon D300, a 50mm lens and a 18-70mm lens.
Some shots from the day below and you can see more on my flickr page. Comments welcome!
easParticipanthi,
very nice shots, well done.
Only thing I’d wonder about is the tilting?
Where was the wedding, the beach looks very nice.
mtmccallionParticipantThanks for the comment. I like to use it a bit of tilting in some shots as totally straight can look a bit boring but then thats just me!
Beach is Ballyliffin, Inishowen, Co. Donegal.
summerdreamnMemberthis is a really great set, marie! good job :) i see you’re really loving the d300.
mtmccallionParticipantYeah I love it…would need to upgrade some of my lenses now that I have it to get the most out of it but I’ll have to hold off for a while as I lost my job! Great to get out with a few local photographers though for the experience!
MDCPhotographyParticipantMarie,
Nice crisps shots, I have another wedding coming up in September and I am freaking out again lol, really hope my shots come out as clear and crisp.
Had a wee look at your site aswell…. looking good.
Oh and it might be a bit belated but sorry to hear about the design job, I am a graphic designer aswell here in Donegal and was a bit shocked to hear.
Cheers
MartyDeeboParticipantGood shots Marie and some good ones to be proud of.
The processing looks good too
Good luck

I was quite nervous myself about how crisp these would come out as well but my D300 didn’t let me down! The only fast lens I had was a 50mm 1.8. My other lens was a 18-70mm 3.5-4.5 and it did really well. I haven’t done a wedding on my own yet…I know how you feel though! Its pretty nerve wrecking stuff :? so the best of luck with it.
The agency I was working for were originally from Belfast so they wanted to move back there so thats why I lost my job – or so I’m told! I’m pretty happy though as I was fed up with it anyway  these things happen for a reason!

DeeThanks Dee :D
nkeeganParticipantWow fabulous shots!! Love the skies in the beach ones.
I bet they are delighted with them.NossieParticipantAwesome.
In the last pic with the cakes, great composition, I dunno what control you had but… The guy looks a bit dorky. What I mean is the pose of the B+G needs a little attention but the setup was a good idea.

I agree, I see no benefit to the tilting in these, sometimes it works. Lovely location.
