Ok – this is a bit of a hit and run … I’ll have time to give more details on this shot later:

I had a shoot in a stunning victorian mansion outside Dundalk this weekend, its a private home and they were kind enough to give us the run of the place for the day … I worked on a heap of fashion and fashion-nude shots which I’ll get to post at a later date –

but one of the models on the day – Iveta Niklova – is an amazing art nude model – so I had to shoot a more classic set . i love her expression in this :

    Go hardcore JB ;)

I like this one too Lorraine.

Lovely tones. Odd framing though, I think. Her knee is awfully close to the edge of the frame, innit.
Love the darkness on the right side of the frame, but, there is not enough for my liking, I’d like to see the aspect ratio the other way,
landscape instead of portrait. If you know what I mean?

Looks like a very interesting place. Great atmosphere, although that modern radiator is hardly in keeping with what one would expect from a Victorian Mansion. Shame about that…

Yes, just a wonderful thing, that picture-

As much for the location as the poise and attitude of the model-
remarkably, it’s all in the look, and the face-

To have any misgivings at all about the image would be churlish, so I won’t even go there…

    Thanks a million

Iveta is incredibly expressive – I’ve worked with her three times now and couldn’t recommend her highly enough – This was very simple, taken with my 10-20 Sigma lens – using natural light and a reflector !

Sinead – The crop is deliberatley close because i didn’t want the darker edge of the window frame interfering with the composition – and I kind like the tension :) and you are right of course about the radiator – it isn’t strictly of the period ;) and I have others without it – but it doesn’t bother me

For all the reasons you say JB – I think there is something vulnerable about her in this image and she just draws me in- sometimes thats a good thing with a photo and sometimes it stops you seeing the flaws in the image – so i am curious about the general impressions.

    Rob – Cheers Mate ;)

I think its a nice pose and shot, a little more panned to the left I think would work well, dont know if you have pixels that way…

Like on another post i replied to yesterday (Musical nude) I see the same problem though

Her skin (especially the face) looks way over processed for me, not natural looking, almost silver plastic. Again like i said in the other post I am not trying to be a pain just want to be honest…

No worries Martin – I like to get a broad diversity of oppinion, it helps get an idea what I am prepared to change and what I’m not

    – in terms of processing –

this is a straight conversion using Lab and a little Sepia tone in the shadow areas afterwards,
there was some small spot healing brush on the forehead.
I did some cloning work on the bright areas of light coming in the window on the light on the window
    and a levels adjustment
and finally a little local area contrast and sharpening .

when you see the full version tehre is loads of deatil in the skin so no blurry plasticness what so ever – she’s just that pretty :)

I love this. Cropped a little close to the knee, but I understand why from your post above. Very nice vibey shot. :-)

Ah, right I see. I understand, and it does add tension. It’s a very intriguing expression. Lovely.

not sure about the “emptiness” on the right side
perhaps would be nice to crop it little bit tighter

    This is lovely shot Lorraine.
Fabulous model and her pose works for me brilliantly.
The composition and BW conversion great.

Well done. I would love to see more from this day ;)

“You have to get the face right!” and by golly you have.

Super shot Lozza, the space on the right would be perfect for copy. One of the best shots of Iveta I’ve seen.
