Beautiful Sorrento

markst33Participant
Hi there, I was in Sorrento on holidays recently and I have previously published threads with shots from Herculaneum and Capri so now I am going to show a few shots of the wonderful town of Sorrento where we were based. If you ever get a chance to visit here don’t miss it. It is the ideal relaxing/family/romantic/honeymoon get away. Single guys in search of sun sea and s.. I suggest you look elsewhere.
We stayed in the Europa Palace Hotel which was 5 mins walk from the centre of Sorrento. From the main square you could look down and see the road that led up from the Port :
When you go down to the beaches its a bit like a stepping back to a more modest era. with brightly coloured changing cabins to get into your swimming gear if you are not already wearing them :
Before you begin to walk down the many many steps to get to sea level from the heights you can enjoy the views of the most famous volcano in Europe, Mt Vesuvio :
As you wander around the town itself you will come across these gems of old traditional architecture that may surprise you. We peered in through an open door and discovered this small public art gallery set around a central courtyard that was open to the public.
This was a gentlemens club Italian style. There was not a single woman in here and all the men were playing cards or dominos. The artwork on the wall was amazing.
And finally the view from the “beer garden” in our hotel
Thanks for looking.
SeaviewParticipantThese are great Mark, I remember looking in to the gentlemen’s club quite well. Don’t you just love the narrow streets. I also remember our trek up to the rim of Mount Vesuvio, it was quite a let down as I was expecting molten lava and all we saw was a lot of steam / smoke. Still worth it for the views and the walking back in time.
Dave.
markst33ParticipantThanks Dave. I never got to Veuvius cos I had a 5 year old with me and was warned against it. But its a place I will definitely go back to. Its a great walking town. You just plod around at your leisure. The Italians know what they are doing. And as for the food……mmm :P
5faytheParticipantHi Mark,
This is another excellent selection of images and again the
text is really helpful. The colour is lovely.
Nice viewing.
Very well done.
John.
markst33ParticipantLiam2673Participantas mentioned, a very well thought out series of photos. really like how you have found such interesting perspectives. My favourite by some distance is the dining scene, with the chap looking directly at you (only the bike helmet takes away from it). Also, very nice symmetry between first two shots.
DeeboParticipantNice set mark, really well thought out images and great text
You sold me the place, really like to visit this place now.I like the processing too, is this some HDR work?
