First Macro – Help needed to identify

This is my first macro attempt, quite pleased withit myself, but C&C would be very welcome.

Need help to identify it though. I’ve been told it’s a hover fly, although I thought it was more like a drone fly. I don’t know diddly about flies so I thought I’d ask.

    Nikon D80
    Sigma 70-300mm F4 – 5.6 APO DG Macro lens
    F7 for 1/80th second
    focal length 300mm.

Looks like a Drone fly to me, but then I am no expert either. Very good for your first macro attempt too considering your shutter speed at the full focal length of the lens……….Mikka

Yep, it’s a Drone alright. Looks like Eristalis Tenax.

    Very good attempt Leo.
I have the same lens but I do not rate it. I bought it for the macro but I found it not very reliable and found I have to crank up the ISO

Thanks for the comments, and for looking. I was actually going for the yellow fowers, but I when I saw this lad sitting there, I had to give it a go. Luckily, he sat still long enough for me to grab a few shots.

I dont have the lense very long so can’t really rate it yet. It’s budget at the mo which decides my equipment , but ideally I’d like to get a fast macro prime, around the 100mm mark so that I can use it for sport too! Oh, if I could only win the lotto,…. I suppose doing it would increase my chances…….

    Leo.
