Buying my first digital slr and considering Nikon D60/40 and Canon 450D.I just dont like the small compacts and used to have slr’s in the past.
Skill level is basic or less.
Thanks. :oops:5faytheParticipantHi fionn,
Welcome to the site and I hope you enjoy being a member
and get all the help you ask for.It is difficult to give a definite answer as to what camera one should buy.
The cameras you mention are are reputed to be very good. You should probably go to a good shop that stocks the cameras you are
considering and get them in your hands to see how they feel.I suppose it is an important decision in that when you choose a
manufacturer you will probably stay with that manufacturer for
quite a while.I see from you first post that you have some Nikon lenses.
Maybe some of them would be compatible with a Nikon DSLR.Good luck with your decision and I look forward to seeing some
of your pictures.John.
b318ispParticipantI think JOhn is right for you to try out either of the camera’s you have mentioned. Canon also have the 500D released.
However, I’d also suggest considering second hand gear. 2-3 year old cameras are going very cheap, and you can get really good gear for the same price as a new entry level SLR.
SheldonParticipantWe have a the D60 with VR lenses in stock. https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?p=204980#204980
PeteWMemberIt’s a always worth checking the “Equipment for Sale” section of this site. You frequently get people upgrading and selling off old / unwanted kit.

Thanks. :oops:How much would you like to spend? This is SLR and you must buy lens.
I prefer nikons because they are more comfortable for me. From these 3 cameras I’d buy 450d though.
Ireland is a very expensive country for shopping. Buy 2nd hand or find somebody going to London Stansted. There are often great offers. I’ve seen recently nikon d90 with 18-105 for 695 sterling.hotjohn01ParticipantI had a d60 for a while (b4 it got robbed from my apartmemt in barcalona)
very good, reliable dslr :)
