    Lovely, lovely light-
you look like you’re enjoying this film thing,
and that’s a lovely camera to be using.

Seems like you’ve decided a little bit of patience is worthwhile?

The shallow dof really accentuates the eyes – a lovely shot John!

    Thanks everyone.

Really, really, really enjoying the film stuff and this camera and the images it produces.

Alessia & Ken – Thanks very much. He’s a great little model when the bribes are right.

Joseph – Patience, yes, but I still shot about 8 rolls of 120 last week so still a bit of John Rambo in me.

    Appreciate it.

Truly I say to you folks…

In the fifth month of 2009 two mighty warriors met one lunch time in a city centre location…

they were regarded by many as mortal enemies but in reality there was no blood letting …

there was much discourse between the two…

mostly about photography but also about other matters…

anyway, says the older (wiser) one to the younger (more Adonis like) one…

“You have a distinct talent with people and should take more portraits” …

“Do you think so?” added the younger warrior who admitted he was but a novice in photographical terms …

“Oh yes said the older, wiser warrior “and you should buy this here Mamiya TLR to help you achieve that goal” …

and so the younger warrior duly set off on his photographic journey both with hope and some trepidation …

as, you see, he hath hitherto been a slave to the process governed by the false God, Digitalis …

after a time the young warrior began to use less the goods that the false God Digitalis had initially bestowed upon him …

and he began to use more the gift (well, purchase) that the true God Analogis had floggeth to him …

and then NFL (for that was the young warrior’s name) began to see the light …

and he stopped snapping goldfinches …

    and he stopped photoshopping …

(although, he was tempted by Satan into narcissism with a ‘art nude’ self portrait along the way but, no matter) …

    AND, LO & BEHOLD …

…he produceth a portrait masterpiece such as this!

Well done Mr Brady. Great work.

I look forward to many more of this quality.

Heh, heh… was it only May, seems longer?

Yes, you gave me a bit of confidence that day when you mentioned portraits George. T’was a good chat we had.

Still a lot to learn though… nothing is ever perfect… must always strive for something better.

    Appreciate it.

Come back from the Darkside John…they’re not your friends…they believe in false gods, and fairies and stuff.

Nice work. I’m liking this short DOF that you’ve done and with Martins Holga-cise during the week it’s really giving the site, for me, a greater interest at the moment.

You should seriously consider giving it a go Alan.

I’ve all the stuff there (cameras, dev gear, scanner) to be borrowed at anytime.

Have to say it’s seriously alluring and totally redefines photography for me right now.

    Cheers

To be serious I have considered it and continue to do so. What prevents me from doing it is this – you buy film, you take shots, you develop it, scan it and put it on to a computer to print. At the moment I can take 3 of those stages out and shoot digital. I’d love to create what film does such as this shot and the aforementioned Holga but it seems like a painful extra step. I’ve been in contact with Martin about 1 year ago about the Bronica SQAi with thoughts of purchasing one and still check on Ebay re their price, etc. The jury is still out I’m afraid as at the moment I’m not in the camera collecting humour…maybe I just don’t know how much fun it can be.

Still, I’m debating on going to the Lo-Fi event with my Kipper 36D as presented to me by Sean1098 and Cathal in Kilmore Last year. Comes in vomit yellow with a sticker of a dog on it. None of your taping up buttons or doors on this baby, no way, Hosé! Pure class, manual wind on. WB is also auto but you have to press a button with auto-focus. Plastic lens, f0.5 or sumpink.

    Cheers John.

Only if you want it to be. I kept trying to convince myself of the same thing in the past. I really enjoy the process now that I’ve tried it.

That camera really suits you… your “walk around, catch a quick portrait in nice light” style. I was actually surprised when I saw your latest photos on flickr… good stuff. Hope to see more portraits from you, John!

    Cheers Big Z,

Maybe if we meet up at “Lo-Fi 2 – NFL Finally Shows Up” I can do a few of you? I enjoyed the craic the last day in SSG… your great poses every time I pointed the camera in your direction.

If we’re really lucky Joseph might take a picture of us too… instead of telling us to p* off into the corner whilst he chats with the young ladies

Great stuff, there is an intensity to it, very engaging image.
Neopan seems to be pretty cool for this type of thing, lovely tones.
